{"id":429,"date":"2020-02-05T10:06:07","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T15:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wbuarchived.mydev.ca\/?page_id=429"},"modified":"2020-10-25T14:53:11","modified_gmt":"2020-10-25T19:53:11","slug":"projects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wbuarchived.mydev.ca\/?page_id=429","title":{"rendered":"Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following projects are part of WBU&#8217;s initiatives to empower members and ensure they are actively engaged in the implementation and monitoring of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/development\/desa\/disabilities\/convention-on-the-rights-of-persons-with-disabilities.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities<\/a> (CRPD) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationaldisabilityalliance.org\/content\/united-nations-sustainable-development-goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> (SDG\u2019s). The WBU continues to work closely with global and national organizations of persons with disabilities (DPOs) to promote the rights of persons with disabilities, in line with the CRPD and SDGs<\/p>\n<h3>Uganda<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Advocating for continued inclusion of the Washington Group of Questions in Uganda National Censuses, Surveys and other Data Collection Engagements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The World Blind Union jointly with <a href=\"https:\/\/unablind.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uganda National Association of the blind<\/a> (UNAB), and with the financial support of \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBM International<\/a> implemented a national project in Uganda to advocate for continued inclusion of Washington Group of Questions in national censuses, surveys and other data collection. The goal of the project was to build capacity of persons with disabilities, government officials, organisations of persons with disabilities (DPOs) and other stakeholders to advocate for the inclusion of the Washington Group of Questions.\u00a0 Download project reports below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/worldblindunion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/FINAL-WBU-PROJECT-RESEARCH-DOCUMENT-ON-WASHINGTON-GROUP-OF-QUESTIONS-DOCUMENT.doc\"><u>Download full Project Report<\/u><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/worldblindunion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/WBU-MEDIA-ENGAGEMENT-REPORT-DECEMBER-2019.doc\"><u>Download Media Engagement Report<\/u><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Kenya<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Mainstreaming Accessibility and Disability Inclusion in Disaster Risk Reduction Policies in Kenya<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kub.or.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenya Union of the Blind<\/a> (KUB) in partnership with the World Blind Union and with financial support from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBM International<\/a>, implemented a national advocacy project in Kenya\u00a0 on \u201cMainstreaming Accessibility and Disability Inclusion in Disaster Risk Reduction Policies in Kenya.\u201d The aim of the project is to advocate for implementation of disability inclusive frameworks in relation to humanitarian emergencies. The project is in response to the recommendations made in 2015 by the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to the government of Kenya to implement various obligations set out to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. The two recommendations were: (a) adopt a national plan to ensure the protection of persons with disabilities in situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies and to further ensure universal accessibility and disability inclusion at all stages and levels of all disaster risk reduction policies and their implementation; and (b) provide information in accessible modes, means and formats of communication for all persons with disabilities, in all of the State party\u2019s official languages, and indigenous languages about early warning mechanisms in case of risk and humanitarian emergency.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/worldblindunion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/End-of-DRR-Project-Report-21-12-2019-1.docx\"><u>Download full Project Report<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Implementation of SDGs in compliance with UNCRPD obligations &#8211; National Reports<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><strong>Kenya<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">This national\u00a0 report, commissioned by the World Blind Union\u00a0 (WBU) in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationaldisabilityalliance.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Disability Alliance (IDA)<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/kub.or.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenya Union of the Blind (KUB)<\/a>, documents Kenya\u2019s implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Compliance with the CRPD. It examines the extent to which Kenya\u2019s activities aimed at achieving the goals and targets set out in the SDGs include and consider people with disabilities and that they comply with its commitments under the CRPD. The report examines how Rwanda is achieving the goals and targets set out in the SDGs and inclusion of persons with disabilities in compliance with its commitments under the CRPD. The Report was published with the support of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationaldisabilityalliance.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Disability Alliance<\/a> (IDA).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u><a href=\"https:\/\/worldblindunion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/rwanda-SDGs-national-report.docx\">Download full report<\/a><\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Pakistan<\/h3>\n<p>The World Blind Union in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/pabsindh.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pakistan Association of the Blind<\/a> (PAB) compiled a national report on the Implementation of the SDGs in Pakistan. The report examines the progress made by Pakistan regarding selected SDGs with respect to persons with disabilities (PWDs).
